On June 14, 2024 CenEA together with the Regional Center for Social Policy organised an international conference under the honorary auspices of the Marshall of West Pomeranian Voivodeship entitled “Economic aspects of social policy: funding and redistribution”.

The playing field in academia: Why are women still underrepresented?
Women continue to be underrepresented in every stage of the academic career in many fields and they do not advance professionally at the same rate as men. A growing body of research in economics points towards social and institutional causes behind these inequalities and offers policy suggestions to address them. To discuss and disseminate recent developments in this area FROGEE together with CenEA and SITE hosted a conference in Warsaw on 21-22 June, 2023. It combined contributed sessions, invited lectures and policy discussions.

The second day of the Conference (22 June) began with two invited lectures by:
prof. Carlo Schwarz (Bocconi University): “Gender Gaps in Academia: Global Evidence over the 20th Century”
and
prof. Sarah Smith (University of Bristol): “Promoting diversity: Gender equality initiatives in economics”.
These were followed by panel discussions on policies and solutions aimed at ensuring fairness and equality at different stages of the academic career. Below you can download:

The policy brief Lessons from the FROGEE Conference “The Playing Field in Academia: Why Are Women Still Underrepresented?” summarizes the main discussions and conclusions of the event.
The conference was organised as part of the FREE Network initiative FROGEE, supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).

Warsztaty Podatkowe: Dochody własne UE a podatek minimalny od przedsiębiorstw międzynarodowych w kontekście NextGenerationEU
24 kwietnia 2023 w Warszawie odbędzie się 6. edycja Warsztatów Podatkowych, organizowanych przez Fundację Centrum Dokumentacji i Studiów Podatkowych i CASE – Centrun Analiz Społeczno-Ekonomicznych, we współpracy z Centrum Analiz Ekonomicznych CenEA, Uczelnią Łazarskiego oraz Przedstawicielstwem Komisji Europejskiej w Polsce.
Celem warsztatów jest zintegrowanie polskich ekonomistów i badaczy z pogranicza ekonomii (prawo, socjologia, psychologia), zajmujących się szeroko pojętą tematyką analiz systemu podatkowego, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem realiów europejskich. Do udziału w warsztatach zapraszamy naukowców zajmujących się zarówno badaniami teoretycznymi, jak i empirycznymi. W tym roku zajmiemy się podatkiem minimalnym od przedsiębiorstw międzynarodowych w kontekście NextGenerationEU, czyli unijnego mechanizmu finansowania odbudowy gospodarczej i przyszłej spłaty zaciągniętego na ten cel wspólnotowego długu.

Hybrid conference | Economic and social context of domestic violence
While the COVID-19 pandemic has amplified the academic and policy interest in the causes and consequences of domestic violence, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has tragically spotlighted the gender dimensions of war. Against this background, the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE) together with the Centre for Economic Analysis (CenEA) and the FREE Network will host a hybrid conference on 11 May 2022 focused on ‘Economic and social context of domestic violence’ with a special panel session on:
Dimensions of gender-based violence in military conflicts
Rigorous analysis is needed for understanding not only the scale of domestic and gender-based violence in extraordinary circumstances – such as the pandemic or war – but also their broader socio-economic determinants in regular times, how they are perceived and what policies and regulations can limit their incidence
The conference will combine presentations of academic papers and contributions from policy makers. The keynote address will be given by Professor Bilge Erten (Northeastern University) and the conference is planned as a hybrid event with several sessions held at the Stockholm School of Economics and the entire event streamed online via the Zoom platform.
